Travelling to Ürgüp and Local Life
Ürgüp is one of the main towns of the Cappadocia region in Central Anatolia and serves as a convenient base for exploring the area’s remarkable landscape of valleys, rock-cut churches, and historical settlements. The town has developed into a vibrant tourism centre with boutique cave hotels, restaurants, cafés, and wine houses, while still preserving its traditional stone architecture and local character.
The town is easily accessible by air and road. Visitors travelling internationally usually arrive via Istanbul and continue their journey to Cappadocia through either Nevşehir Cappadocia Airport (NAV) or Kayseri Airport (ASR). From both airports, regular shuttle services, taxis, and private transfers operate to Ürgüp and neighbouring towns in the region.
Cappadocia University’s main campus is located in the historic village of Mustafapaşa, approximately 6 km from Ürgüp, offering a peaceful academic environment within one of the region’s most architecturally distinctive settlements. The village, formerly known as Sinasos, is renowned for its beautifully preserved stone mansions, narrow streets, and unique cultural heritage that reflects centuries of Anatolian and Mediterranean influences.
Mustafapaşa is well-connected to the surrounding towns and airports. For example, Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport is approximately 54 km away and can be reached in about 45–50 minutes by car or transfer service.
In addition to the conference programme, participants will find many opportunities to enjoy the social life of the region. Ürgüp and the surrounding Cappadocia area offer a variety of cultural and leisure activities, including local cuisine, traditional cafés, vineyard visits, hot-air balloon flights, and guided tours through valleys and historical sites. The area’s welcoming atmosphere, small-town charm, and distinctive geological landscape make it not only a remarkable academic meeting location but also an inspiring destination to explore.
